February Round Up!

This month was a blur to say the least! Following our initial move in, 4 days later started the downhill spiral of all of us eventually being sick. Whatever this bug was, if really liked to linger…our youngest was home for 10 days. Sickness in a tiny house was certainly on my radar…just not 4 days in…I thought I’d have more time to “prepare”! We decided if we could get through our first round of illnesses, we could pretty much handle anything in here. Our bedroom basically became where the sickies hung out. Which meant, storing all of your clothes UNDER your bed (which needs to lift up) wasn’t the most ideal when trying to keep up with laundry and putting things away. (Currently we run about 2-3 loads a day just to stay on top of it since the washer size is about a quarter of a normal one.)

Sick or not, one of the bigger challenges right now has been, where do you go when everyone is needing to go to sleep early?! Eventually, we’ll have a covered deck (coming in March!) that we plan to make a cozy outdoor living area…but for now, the options are outside (if its not raining) or the bathroom!

<– Mom outside trying to stay healthy, while everyone else headed to bed early!

The bathroom floor has quite literally become where I can get things done without waking everyone up! This totally works until someone needs to come use the bathroom…at which point, I scoop up everything and hide it in the dryer which happens to be conveniently located in the bathroom, haha! Its also become our TV room as well…so glamourous.

In the category of “cool” things we’ve learned…the neighbor kids and our youngest has learned that nerf wars between lofts are pretty epic! And for the most part, if you are down below, you don’t get hit! Win-Win

The farm chickens are still very “concerned” about our presence. They come right up to our front door and want in…so maybe they’ve confused us with a slightly larger chicken coop…

I’ve also had to shoo one out of the trunk of my car while unloading groceries and then they followed around waiting for me to drop food…its the animal planet outside our front door right now!

Tip of the month, haha! We’ve all had to learn to walk “gently” and “slowly”. One thing we had not anticipated, was feeling like we are on a boat. One of our first nights here, Ky was tossing & turning, and you would have thought the thing was swaying in a wind storm! And as Ken got up to walk to the other side to use the restroom, Ky and I got the giggles because you would have thought an elephant was walking through our place! We laid there laughing at the fact that we were getting annoyed with each other for being “too rowdy”, when really, all of us are like clunky elephants wandering through our 30 foot tiny home. Our motto for the month was, “survive…it can only go up from here!” We’re thankful there was more laughter then tears and grumpiness. Here’s hoping and praying for an early Spring! 😉
